1970s Bassei Chronograph

Description

This is a very unique and uncommon Bassei chronograph from the mid-1970s. This peculiar movement is an automatic winding caliber 1369 17-jewel (modular) column wheel chronograph running at 21,600bph. The initials “BKTD” represent Brac, Kelek, Tenor-Dorly, and Dubois, which were the four companies that participated in the making of this automatic winding movement. We’ve learned that the chronograph portion was added by Dubois-Depraz, who was a chronograph-design specialist. Kelek actually produced the movement. Notice the offset positioning of the chronograph register located at 11:00. The slate-grey dial and all hands are original and very striking in their appearance. The 38mm stainless steel case looks very good. The automatic winding movement was just meticulously serviced and is accurate. If you are a chronograph collector, this watch will be one of the more difficult variations to find.
