Description
Here is an 1942 Oyster Raleigh by Rolex. This is the most robust case version in the Oyster series; in stainless steel measuring 30mm with wide polished bezel and Oyster screw-back (by Rolex). The original dial with reflective track and blued steel pencil hands looks great. The hands may have been re-lumed many decades ago, but are the original. The (just serviced and accurate) correct manual winding caliber 59 movement is signed Rolex under the dial on the top plate. Rolex had modified ebauche movements made by Fontmelon, which was named the FF30 and later renamed the Rolex caliber 59. The Oyster series of watches were produced by Rolex and assembled in Canada to circumvent duties and taxes. These watches were marketed to Canadian soldiers going overseas to fight in WW2 and were sold at PX stores. This is a very fine example of a hard-to-find WW2-era Oyster.
