1942 Rolex Skyrocket Military Watch

Description

This vintage, all-original and correct 1942 Rolex aviator’s watch named the Rolex Skyrocket was produced for Canadian soldiers going overseas in WW2 and was marketed towards fighter pilots. The original and very clean 29mm sterling-silver, steel-back case with dust-proof winding crown looks excellent for its age. The original and signed Rolex case back is stainless steel. Many of these contract cases were not signed Rolex, as Rolex commissioned ID an Pioneer case company to produce their cases in Canada to circumvent import duties. This particular version has the more valuable Rolex-signed case back. These Rolex Skyrocket watches were all small in stature. They were likely made smaller to reduce the chance of damaging them. The original dial on this Skyrocket is very attractive with original radium Arabic numerals, blued steel original pencil hands, and original sweep seconds. The manual winding caliber 59 Rolex movement (correctly signed Rolex under the dial) is sparkling and keeping accurate time after a recent cleaning by our Rolex-approved watchmaker. We simply are not seeing these watches appear as of late. Most Rolex Skyrocket dials have been refinished, which reduces their value. This original example is a gem. This dial appears lighter and clearer in person.
