Description
This is an all-original and uncommon WW2 military Oyster Commander produced by the Rolex watch company in 1945. The stainless steel case is quite nice with a truly sparkling ref. 3478 case back. The original Oyster-patented winding crown is still functioning. The caliber 59 movement (all-original, signed “ROLEX” under the dial) is keeping time very well after a recent cleaning and overhaul. The original dial is spectacular, all original with gold mirrored track, 24-hour (red) track, Arabic numerals, red sweep seconds, and original blued steel pencil hands, which is very rare to find in such clean and near-pristine condition! Notice the rare curved “SHOCK RESISTING” print. These 29.5mm stainless steel Oyster watches are small in size and probably designed to avoid damage during battle. They were designed and sold to Canadian soldiers going overseas in WW2. This is a wonderful example being all original, except (of course) the perfect new vintage-looking, stitched, leather band that compliments the watch quite nicely. These vintage military Oyster watches are becoming very hard to find in original condition, especially as fine as this example!
