This is an uncommon Rolex Oyster variety produced mainly for the Commonwealth countries (Canada, UK, Australia etc.) in a gold-plated case with stainless steel screw back. This watch even retains the correct, rare, and early Rolex Oyster crown! We purchased this from the family of the original owner. These watches celebrated the battle of Britain – hence the names “Air-King,” “Air-Giant,” and “Air-Tiger.” This watch is a mid-size measuring 33.5mm. This was one of the earliest watches of the bunch dating to 1946 and are now difficult to find these days. The serial # is 440xxx. The manual winding Rolex movement was just cleaned and is keeping accurate time. The Explorer-style dial and pencil hands are original. The lume on the hands may have been re-done at some time way back.
