1958 Rolex Explorer

Description

This is a very uncommon ref. 5500 1958 Rolex Explorer measuring 34mm in a stainless-steel case. These rare Explorers were made only for the Canadian market in the 1950s as an experiment in the Explorer line. The original bullseye dial makes this example very unique and hard to find. The Dauphine-style hands are original. The Canadian version Explorers also came in a gold-plated case, and another rare dress version measuring 36mm, known as the big bubbleback with reference 6298, 6098 and 6532. This ref. 1530 butterfly-automatic movement is valuable on its own, as it is also used in the Rolex Submariner. This watch comes on a period-correct Rolex Oyster, riveted ref. 7205 bracelet. We have not polished this watch to protect the original condition.
