This Rolex Air-King Date from 1969 has a very attractive and original patina’d dial that has aged to a darker-vanilla hue. Actually, there is a linen pattern to the dial as well, adding further interest. In my photo there is shadowing – the dial is actually evenly aged when seen in person… I love it. These Air-King Dates are the ‘hot Rolex watch’ at this time. This Date variety of Air-King was sold mainly in Canada and Commonwealth countries only. The date is the feature making it uncommon, as the regular and common Air-Kings do not have the date. The 35mm stainless steel original ref. 5500 Rolex-Oyster case is without any major dings or flaws. The automatic winding Rolex caliber 1520 movement was just cleaned and is accurate. I believe these watches will increase in value over time.
