Description
Here is a very uncommon vintage 1970 dive watch that could be the largest vintage dive timepiece ever produced for the mass market in that era! This Royce Automatic Professional Marine with screw back measures an awesome 46×62.5mm lug-to-lug! From what limited information we are able to ascertain, these watches were produced for professional divers and were mainly used by the French navy. We have another in our own collection that we are keeping and both were purchased from France, further validating this claim. The base-metal chrome-plated and hooded lugs are moveable (flexible). The bezel with inset minute markers in black and orange Arabic 10-minute-interval markers (orange) is unidirectional, preventing the diver from turning the bezel backwards if bumped. This further demonstrates its professional design. The all-original orange dial is unbelievably vibrant with green lume markers that still glow, as do the hands and sweep seconds. The underwater readability must have been second to none with this piece! The original mineral-glass crystal is pristine. The automatic winding signed Royce movement is produced by AS and is accurate. Notice the recessed crown protected and inset in the top lug, further reducing water penetration in the event that the crown is bumped. This incredibly collectable Royce dive watch has minor wear, that is more visible in my close-up pictures than in real life.
