Description
In the world of vintage Rolex, this particular Air-King is rarely found. Here is a 1958 ref. 5504 36mm Rolex Air-King Super Precision in stainless steel. The ref. 5504 appeared in 1958 and seems to have ended its production in around 1964. This large-size case reference housed three iconic Rolex watches; being the Air-King, Explorer and Everest models. Being 2mm larger than the regular 34mm Air-King; this watch appears sprawling on the wrist with its all-dial appearance. This original dial and hand-set looks so much better in person, having light patina, elongated-steel-doorstop markers, Dauphine-style hands and blued-steel sweep seconds. The steel case with polished bezel is sleek, large and seems thin while being worn. The caliber 1530 automatic-winding Rolex movement was just expensively and meticulously serviced; which should allow many years of pleasurable wearing. The Rolex Jubilee bracelet is more modern – from 1971 and is exceptionally tight and clean. These watches were often sold on leather, so I will reduce the price by $1000 if you chose to exclude the bracelet. Usually when these vintage Rolex watches are found, the dials have been restored or switched to Explorer re-dials. This was a one-owner original watch purchased in Canada.
