Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz With Plum Dial

Description

This 1977 Rolex Datejust Oysterquartz displays fantastic original condition! It is great to place an Oysterquartz on the wrist, without having to wind or set it. The 36.5mm case with 14k gold bezel and two-tone solid-gold bracelet is in very fine shape, fitting about a 6.75″ wrist. The Rolex sapphire crystal is new, with the etched Rolex logo visible. This plum dial is extremely rare, completely original, and we’ve never seen another like it. Please note that this is the earliest and first version on the Oysterquartz without the words “SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED” that appeared in the later versions of this watch. This production date of the Rolex Oysterquartz is the first year this watch was introduced. There is only the slightest spotting between 4:00 and 5:00 that is really not visible at all with the naked eye. This dial is striking and fabulous! This Rolex watch has a quickset date feature for ease of setting. Rolex was known to manufacture these watches with the highest tolerances; the Oysterquartz was built to the highest tolerances of all watches Rolex made in this era. The electronic, quartz movement in this Rolex is very finely finished and considered to be the best quartz movement ever produced. Only the Rolex manual winding 1530, which preceded this watch for a very short time, utilized this same case and bracelet. I have never found an overly stretched bracelet on an Oysterquartz, as they are built so finely. We wear an Oysterquartz as our daily wearer, because they have such a sleek modern look, are larger than most vintage Rolex watches (other than the sports models in the same era), and are very accurate. It is estimated that only 25,000 of these special Rolex watches were produced worldwide, further adding to their cult status and desirability. This battery operated watch is ticking away very accurately. This dial is exceptionally uncommon.
