Rolex With Black Roman Dial

Description

This is a rare square-shaped mens Rolex from the late 1930s to early 1940s measuring a smaller-sized 25×35.5mm lug to lug. The original case was rhodium plated and worn, so we had the case expensively re-plated in lustrous rhodium to bring its original luster back. The rhodium-plating will last many decades! The case back is the original stainless steel and is signed. The dial is really elegant to gaze upon and is completely original and un-touched. Notice the gold gilt Roman numerals with sub-seconds and original stick hands. With the age of this watch, we usually find these dials heavily spotted from moisture in the non-sealed cases, but not this dial as it is really lovely and evenly aged. Only the words “shock resisting” have faded just above the sub-seconds. It can still be read on an angle. The original Rolex manual winding movement was just cleaned, overhauled, and should provide many more years of timekeeping. This watch is really quite lovely on the wrist. The oxidization on the hands is not as visible with the naked eye; it shows mainly in my close-up pictures due to the light angle.
