Here is a very rare (all original) 1942, military, ROLEX OYSTER EVEREST reference 3139 housed in the original and usual (smaller sized) 29.7 x 37.2mm. (11.2 mm. thick) two piece, steel, OYSTER, cushion case that is gleaming! There are some usual marks on the case back…nothing detracting. This rare OYSTER even retains its’ original lead gasket! Please keep in mind; these boy’s size OYSTERS in this cushion case do look larger on the wrist than the regular and more common “circular” cases. This complicated silver dial is completely original; having Arabic numerals with blued steel hands and sub-seconds register with concentric circles. The original ROLEX, winding crown is also intact. The movement is a high quality, ROLEX, 17 jewel with 10 1/2 hunter just cleaned and overhauled. This is amongst the rarest watch found in the series of OYSTER watches and is one of the most desirable. In 1933, Rolex began to sponsor Himalayan and polar expeditions, including the first successful ascent of Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. This is the first watch ROLEX produced with the name EVEREST on the dial. This is an important, rare and early OYSTER EVEREST dating to 1940 that simply does not come to market.
